Froth (retrospective daily prompt)

It all started over the froth of coffee and vanilla cheesecake.

She was in the latter half of her teenage years, he was older.

Her naivety, all freckles, blonde hair, blue eyes hidden behind glasses at least 5 years out of style.

She didn’t question what had brought them together in this place, but enjoyed the feeling of being wanted.

He noticed as she licked the spoon an errant piece of cheesecake on the corner of her full lips. At that moment he was transfixed.

His finger slowly traced her lip to remove it, noticing her freckled skin blush pink.

Later, they sat on the long grass by the river bank, the summer heat masked by a gentle breeze.

Her skin tingled with the flush of cold, she laid amongst the carpet of green, the smell of the sweet midsummer flowers filling the air.

He kissed her that day, softly, sweetly and they lay amongst the flowers, fingers intertwined.

Shortly after that day, this would be the man who would make her a woman. She remembers the smell of his skin, the sunlight filling the room. His gentle hands caressing her, until breathless and trembling they slept.

Years from now she would think of this period in her life and remember him, a mixture of fondness and confusion.

It all started over the froth of coffee and vanilla cheesecake.
